If you’re running an older Contiform S, you’ve probably hit a wall with your output. It’s frustrating. You want to push the machine faster, but the preforms aren’t heating evenly, and you’re stuck. The good news? You don’t need a miracle. Most of the time, it’s just about swapping out those tired OEM lamps for high-density infrared replacements. It’s not magic—it’s just about getting the right wavelength and heat flux back into the mix so your PET softens perfectly without scorching. Let’s talk about heat density. The Contiform S uses short-wave infrared to get deep into the PET wall. When you’re looking for a replacement lamp, keep an eye on the wattage-to-length ratio. Think of it as packing more punch into a small space. More energy per square millimeter means you can shorten the heating time. Just a heads-up: if you go with a higher power rating, double-check your power supply. You don’t want to be the person tripping breakers during a peak run because the current draw spiked. The nitty-gritty on glass and gas. We use heavy-wall quartz glass because it can take the beating of rapid heating and cooling without cracking. We also fill them with halogen gas. This keeps the tungsten filament from evaporating too fast, which means your tubes won’t turn dark and lose their edge over time. Most of these are R7s or similar snap-in connectors, so they’re a breeze to swap. But here’s a pro tip: check the tension on your sockets.
