If you’re running mid-tier Chumpower blow molders, you know that feeling when you hit a wall. You want more output, but you’re stuck with uneven heating or cycle times that just won’t budge. Most people think they need a whole new machine. But honestly? You might just need better lamps. The deal with heat density Here is the thing: swapping out your standard lamps for high-output shortwave infrared tubes changes the whole game. By upping the wattage per millimeter, you’re basically forcing more heat into the PET preform, faster. It lets the plastic hit that critical “glass transition” temperature in a blink. You might only shave a fraction of a second off each cycle, but when you’re running thousands of bottles, those fractions add up to real money. But watch out. More heat in a small space means the oven gets hot—really hot. If your cooling fans are dusty or just too weak, you’re asking for trouble. You could warp the oven frame or, worse, burn your preforms. Keep those fans clean. The nitty-gritty on the hardware We use heavy-wall quartz glass for these. Why? Because thin glass bows when it gets hot, and that ruins your consistency. We also stick to R7s or SK15 connectors. You want a tight, snug fit. A loose connection is a nightmare—it creates an arc that’ll fry your socket in a few weeks. Inside the tube, there’s a halogen gas fill. It stops the filament from evaporating too fast, so your heat stays steady for thousands of hours. Some of our lamps even have a special coating that pushes the heat forward toward the plastic instead of letting it waste away toward the back of the oven. Making it work in your shop The best part is that these are drop-in replacements. You pull the old tube, pop the new one in, and tweak your PLC timers. Just a heads-up: if you’re switching from 230V to 400V, double-check your wiring and transformers. You don’t want to overload your system.
