Stop Fighting Bathroom Mold with a Scrub Brush
Most people think of bathroom heaters as a luxury—something to keep you from shivering when you step out of the shower. But if you look at it from a design perspective, an IP66-rated infrared lamp is actually a weapon against moisture. We built these things to survive the “splash zone” of a shower, but their real job is to dry out your walls before the mold even gets a chance to move in.
How it actually works
Here is the thing about standard heaters: they just warm up the air. That’s fine, but it doesn’t do much for the damp walls. Infrared is different. It goes straight for the surface. It sends out short-wave radiation that warms up your walls and ceilings directly. When the wall is warmer than the air around it, water can’t settle. It just doesn’t stick. And since mold needs a damp place to grab hold, taking away the moisture means taking away the mold. Simple as that. We use IP66 housing for these, which is just a fancy way of saying they’re sealed tight. Dust can’t get in, and high-pressure water won’t break them. You can put them right above the shower and not spend your morning worrying about a short circuit.
The trade-offs (and a warning)
To get that “instant dry” feeling, you need a lot of heat. We use quartz glass and halogen filaments to make sure the heat hits hard and fast. You aren’t sitting around waiting for the room to warm up; the surfaces dry almost immediately. But, there’s a catch. High-wattage lamps pull a lot of power. If you’re putting these into an old house,**please check your wiring first.**Old wires can overheat if they’re pushed too hard. If you’re installing a few of these, it’s a smart move to give them their own dedicated circuit so you aren’t tripping your breakers every time you take a shower.
A better way to breathe
When you add these lamps, your exhaust fan doesn’t have to do all the heavy lifting. Instead of just trying to suck the steam out of the room, you’re actively stopping the moisture from settling in the first place. It’s a two-pronged attack. Your grout stays clean, your silicone seals don’t turn black, and your bathroom just feels… crisp.
