
Getting the Heat Right for Your Husky HyPET Systems
If you’ve spent any time on a production floor, you know the struggle. Trying to get consistent wall thickness during high-speed PET blowing is a nightmare if your thermal control is off. In a Husky HyPET system, the preform has to hit a very specific temperature before it ever touches the blow mold. The problem? Most heating just sits on the surface. You end up with a preform that’s scorched on the outside but cold in the middle. We fixed that by redesigning our heating modules to push infrared (IR) energy deeper into the material. You get a uniform melt without burning the plastic.
How we actually get the heat inside
It comes down to the physics of the lamps. Standard lamps waste a ton of energy just heating the air and the surface. We changed the quartz composition and added internal coatings to shift the emission spectrum. Basically, we’ve tuned the IR waves so they slide right through the PET wall instead of bouncing off it. It’s the difference between a heat lamp that warms your skin and one that actually warms your bones.
The hardware side of things
We didn’t want you to have to rebuild your machine just to upgrade your heat. These modules are drop-in replacements. If you’re running a 400V system, these tubes have the raw power needed to keep up with high-cavity counts without slowing down your cycle speeds. Plus, we use the standard R7s or Sk15 connectors depending on how old your machine is. You just plug them into your existing harness and you’re good to go. We also reinforced the quartz glass. In a 24/7 production environment, the constant heating and cooling can snap cheap glass. Ours is built to take a beating.
One thing to watch out for
Here’s the catch. When you push more energy into the preform, you’re adding more heat to the oven. If your blowers or chillers are already struggling, this extra load could overheat your oven frame. It’s a real risk. Before you swap these in, double-check your airflow rates. It’ll save you from the headache of premature lamp burnout.
