Let’s be honest. A lot of mid-sized bottling lines are running on gear that’s seen better days. Usually, the oven becomes the bottleneck. You want more bottles, but the machine just can’t keep up. Now, you probably can’t just go out and buy a brand-new machine tomorrow. That’s a massive expense. But there is a shortcut: the infrared (IR) lamps. If you swap those generic tubes for high-density elements—specifically the ones built for KRONES-style setups—you can actually shave time off your cycles. It’s all about how the heat hits. Most people think you just need “more heat,” but it’s actually about how fast that heat gets into the plastic. Think of it this way: if you switch from a standard quartz tube to a high-output halogen lamp, you’re pushing way more energy into the preform wall in a much shorter window. Because the plastic heats up faster, it doesn’t need to sit in the oven as long. That means you can crank up the conveyor speed without worrying about under-heating your bottles. The best part? You don’t have to rewire the whole shop. We made these as drop-in replacements. They use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors, so you aren’t spending your weekend tearing apart the control cabinet. We also coated the quartz glass. This does something clever—it shifts the emission spectrum so the energy hits the PET material instead of just heating up the oven walls. It keeps the machine frame from soaking up all the power, putting that energy exactly where it belongs. One thing to watch out for, though. More power means more heat. Period. If you install a high-power 400V array to push your bottles per minute, your cooling fans have to work harder. If your exhaust is clogged or just too small, the oven temperature is going to spike.
